The first personal blog that I came across while researching them was a vanity blog. Titled “My Personal Blog” written by Willy Sudiarto Raharjo, this blog details every aspect of his life. He tells all about what he does during his day and even comments on what the temperature feels like to him. Lately he thinks that it is getting colder. His blog dates back to August of 2004 and he has consistently updated it with his personal experiences and things that influence him since then.
The second personal blog that I read was an informational blog. The blog is about a personal trainer named Steve Cork who works for EverydayAthletes.co.uk. In this blog Steve discusses what type of personal training he takes part in. He also gives advice to people on how they can exercise and get the results that they want. His blog is a personal one that gives insight on himself, as well as telling people about the specific field of fitness.
Both blogs are personal blogs that are centered on two individuals. Both blogs tell about the men’s lives. But the blogs are also extremely different from one another. Willy’s blog tells about all the little things in his life that most would not find any significance in. Steve’s blog tells about a specific aspect of his life, and then relates it to other people so that they may use it to help themselves. That is the difference between vanity blogs and information blogs. The information blogs are more useful as they are directly applied to specific areas of people life, in an attempt to help.
I feel that blogging does support this type of journalism. Blogging is meant for people to share whatever, whenever and however they want. Some have used it to tell others about the world, some have used it to teach, and others have used it as a key into their mind for others to see. Print journalism focuses on informing, blogging focuses on whatever the mind can create.
A good information blog contains information that can help people and focuses on a certain field for the people to research. The blog should make it easier for people to find what they want and teach them in a way that they can understand. A good vanity blog gives insight as to who the person is, what there likes and dislikes are, what they are doing with their lives, and what their goals and aspirations are. A good vanity blog really paints a picture of the individual, what they stand for, and who they really are.
